Case:
Injured VIP in hospital

Initial situation

The hospital unexpectedly receives a well-known politician known for his controversial and occasionally provocative statements. Therefore, emotions usually boil up when he is around. However, he has a serious health problem with his heart and needs a lot of rest.

Initial response and notification

The hospital responds on two levels: First, the patient receives the necessary medical care like any other person, and at the same time the front desk is informed about the VIP and immediately reports an emergency in Pulpius. Since this is a well-prepared scenario, it only takes a few seconds for everything to be set up and for the trained team, including hospital staff, security, and other stakeholders, to be notified to ensure that a VIP is cared for in a discreet manner and protected from public access.

Incident management

During the VIP’s stay, the hospital is secretly on heightened alert. All potentially suspicious individuals or incidents must be logged. The media should also be included on the team. After all, they must be prepared for the emergency that the VIP’s whereabouts do become public knowledge. In this case, a public statement must be made immediately to prevent the spread of false information.

Additional notes

During times when VIPs are more likely than usual to be expected (e.g., political summits, sporting or other celebrity events), the hospital might declare an emergency standby. This is helpful for planning, preparation, and mobilisation of resources and staff.
Pulpius is used only for the special treatment needed by a VIP who needs to be protected from the public. It is not used for medical care.

Benefit

The organisation as a whole is able to respond quickly and effectively without anyone knowing. The setup of Pulpius is discreet so that the personnel involved and only they are aware of the situation. The team is likely to include key healthcare staff, senior management, and dedicated, specially prepared security and facility staff who provide a discreet and secure location in the hospital building. Communication about the situation and any changes is assured for all involved.
